  • Dads can help teach their daughters to dance Rock & Roll at the Sabor Dance School.

  • The Sabor Dance School is offering a class for dads and daughters to learn to Rock & Roll.

The bond between a daughter and her father is one that can very rarely be broken. And it’s truly a special relationship that should continue to be cherished.

Learning to dance, no matter what your age, is a great way to keep active and continue to build on that relationship.

So in honour of Father’s Day, the Sabor Dance School is offering a class for dads and daughters to learn Rock & Roll, a dance that first swept the United States in the 1950s. What better way to spend a morning with your favourite little lady than dancing Rock & Roll!

Like most dances, Rock & Roll developed as an accompaniment to the music.

This energetic and often acrobatic dance evolved from Lindy Hop, the first partner dance to ever feature acrobatics. Around 1940, Lindy Hop was modified to suit the faster music of the era, giving birth to boogie woogie (in the US known as East Coast Swing). With the popularity of Rock & Roll music gaining steam around 1955, dancers created a more athletic dance from boogie woogie known then as Rock & Roll.

Characterised by its kicks and often lifts, throws, jumps and flips, Rock & Roll has evolved as showcase or competitive dance, overseen by the World Rock & Roll Confederation, which organises world competitions.

Now you can bond with your daughter and enjoy this dance by participating in Sabor Dance School’s Dads & Daughters Rock & Roll class on Saturday, June 18, 2011 from 11.30am 12.15pm.

The cost is $25 per couple, limited to 10 couples. Daughters must be aged 8-15 years. Register online now at www.bermudasalsa.com/class_schedule.com.

The Sabor Dance School specialises in quality Latin Dance instruction in Salsa, Cha Cha, Bachata, Merengue, Argentine Tango, Casino de Rueda, Hustle, Ballroom and Steppin.
