A Massachusetts man spent his wedding anniversary in Plea Court today after being caught with cannabis in his cruise ship cabin.

John McDonough, 45, pleaded guilty to possessing 8g of cannabis on October 2 on-board the Norwegian Dawn.

The court heard that on that day, customs officers were searching the ship with a K9 unit when the dog indicated towards McDonough’s room.

McDonough, who was in the area, told officers: “I know what you are looking for.” He then let the officers into the cabin and brought them to the cabin safe, where officers found the drugs.

After pleading guilty, McDonough apologised for the mistake saying his decision had ruined his anniversary.

“My wife is very upset,” he said. “We were married three years ago today, and look where I am.”

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo fined McDonough $2,000, warning him not to bring drugs back to the Island if he chooses to return.
