Making fresh pizza at La Trattoria.
When it comes to the best dining for kids in Bermuda, I went to the best experts I know my own two sons! They gave me a list of their favourites, which I share with you.
Speciality Inn
4 South Shore Road, Smith’s
236-3133
Monday-Saturday 6am-10pm
The home of the Best of Bermuda’s (Bermudian Magazine) favourite pizza, the Speciality Inn offers a wide selection of foods to suit even the fussiest eaters.
Located at the foot of Collector’s Hill, Speciality is definitely one of the Island’s busiest locales, and so there is sometimes a bit of a wait, particularly if there are more than two of you, but the staff there are so efficient that it won’t be long before you can take a seat.
In addition to a child-friendly menu of burgers and Bermudian favourites, the staff are more than willing to customise your dinner, just to your child’s liking.
Rosa’s Cantina
121 Front Street, Hamilton
295-1912
www.bermudarestaurants.com
Lunch and dinner daily
Few children don’t like a good meal of Mexican, and the best place for that in Bermuda is Rosa’s Cantina. And who could blame kids for loving this place? It’s so well decorated, that many kids just love walking around seeing all the Tex-Mex collectibles hanging everywhere.
Even if your child isn’t a fan of tacos, they do have chicken nuggets and pizza, as well as a few other selections to tame the hungry munchkin.
La Trattoria
23 Washington Lane, Hamilton
295-1877
www.latrattoria.bm
Lunch and Dinner daily
When it comes to a place where the whole family can enjoy, few can beat La Trattoria, with some of the best Italian to be had, including pizza cooked in a wood-burning, brick oven. In fact, the restaurant is a multi-year winner as the Best Kid Friendly Restaurant in the Best of Bermuda awards
Children love the Tratt because of their cool pasta-filled tables and children’s menus that they can colour.
Frog & Onion
Royal Naval Dockyard
234-2900
www.frogandonion.bm
Lunch and dinner daily
The Frog & Onion is one of my boys’ all-time favourites, and who could question why! Set in a portion of the old cooperage of the Royal Naval Dockyard, featuring a giant hearth and decorated with massive flags and huge candelabras, it gives any child the feeling that they are dining in an old castle.
Kids can enjoy all their pub favourites, including burgers, nuggets, hot dogs and more, while parents enjoy some of the Island’s yummiest burgers and Bermuda-brewed beer.
House of India
57 North Street, Hamilton
295-6450
Lunch Monday-Friday 11.30am-2.30pm, Dinner Daily, 5.30pm-10pm
Indian food can be an acquired taste, while other kids just love it. My own boys were a bit hesitant the first time we took them to the House of India, but now they love it.
Stick with mild curries, like the Lemon Chicken and Butter Masala, on your first visit, and consider trying the coconut raisin naan bread delicious!
Island Cuisine
235 Middle Road, Southampton
238-EATS (3287)
www.islandcuisine.org
Good Bermudian food that is easy on the pocketbook that is what Island Cuisine is all about.
Located near to Heron Bay Market Place, the Island Cuisine offers daily specials, like pan-fried rockfish, barbecue ribs and Oxtail Stew, as well as traditional sides like macaroni and cheese, coleslaw, and peas and rice. Kids can also enjoy their top choices, like burgers, hot dogs and chicken tenders, served with fries.
Swizzle Inn
Swizzle Inn, Baileys Bay
3 Blue Hole Hill
293-1854
The Swizzle, South Shore
87 South Road, Warwick
236-7459
www.swizzleinn.com
When mom and dad are in the mood for some good pub grub, the Swizzle Inn always has a great assortment of kids foods to please the little ones. They’re under-12s menu features many of the adult favourites, like Capt. Jack’s Fish Sticks, burgers and chicken strips, as well as universal favourites like grilled cheese and pizza. Drinks are also served in spill-proof, take-home cups because you know that kids never finish their drinks at the restaurant!
Kids also love the Swizzle Inn milkshakes, like the Peanut Butter Brownie and Strawberry Cheesecake, as well as traditional flavours, Choco Chocolate, Very Vanilla and Berry Strawberry.
