Bermudian Sullivan Phillips scored 26 points to help BC Prievidza beat Nova Ves 92-87 on Monday night to remain in third place in the Slovakian Men’s National Basketball League with a 12-7 record.

Nitra sit comfortable in the top spot with a 14-3 record, while Komarno (12-6) hold a half-game lead of Phillips’ team.

Prievidza didn’t have it their own way as they were 43-40 down at the half, but a 32-20 fourth quarter in their favour sealed the win for the visitors.

For Phillips, who is enjoying his freshman season at the club, it was a good performance that kept the side in contention for the top spot heading into the latter stages of the season.

“The season is going well so far, we played a good team and the win helped us keep a stronghold on grabbing second place, so with being a young team and seeing they were in last place at this time last year we are happy,” said Phillips.

“Right now it’s a fight for the top four places, although our place right now is comfortable. But we were in their spot at one point so I’m sure that will change for them.

“There are 36 games in the season, and each team play each other four times, so there is still time to catch them.

“Statswise I’m having a solid year but most important thing is winning and were doing a pretty good job at the moment.

“The transition has been interesting as it is always is going from one team to another but the team and management has been extremely accommodating to me and it’s really been smooth.”
