The Bermuda Industrial Union has called an urgent meeting for today for all BIU members who work for the Department of Education.

Union organiser Louis Somner has called the session at 11.30am at BIU headquarters in Hamilton to discuss various concerns.

Mr Somner said: “We have had some issues with pay. We have heard for ages about treatment of our members, being shorted pay, work being done in excess at straight pay and not being compensated.”

He claimed that while management has said it would take action to remedy the issues, no action has been taken.

“The workers are getting tired,” he said.

Another issue to be discussed is that of a BIU member being moved to a different workplace.

Mr Somner was hesitant to give any further details until after the meeting takes place.
