Sandys to host hoops clinic
Sandys 360 Sports, Aquatic, and Enrichment Centre will be hosting a series of free eight week basketball clinics beginning January 21.
The clinics will run from 3 to 4.30pm every Saturday for youth ages 5-15, covering the fundamental skills such as dribbling, passing, and shooting.
Sports director John Barry Nusum believes the clinics will help the younger children in their lives, both on and off the playing field.
Our aim is to develop the necessary fundamental skills of the sport, encouraging lifelong participation, he said.
Sandys 360 is hosts to a FIBA regulated basketball court with newly refinished floors, with the floor also being marked for volleyball, netball, and badminton.
The Bermuda Basketball Association (BBA) has recently made Sandys 360 their home gym, holding all practices, trainings and home games at the site for the 2012 season.
They opened the season with open call tryouts last Saturday.
Dr Melvyn Bassett, Sandys 360 managing director added: Basketball is a great team sport, and will encourage our youth to develop team building, and communication skills that are vital to healthy growth and development.
This is a fantastic initiative and we congratulate Mr. Nusum on his vision.
