Long term parking is unfair

Dear Sir,
I wonder how many, like me, have had a flight delayed or cancelled, or had to spend another day or two overseas on business and returned to Bermuda to find a parking ticket on their car in the long term parking lot. I have no problem paying for the extra time if my return is delayed but to pay $25 up front and then get a $50 (soon to be $75) parking fine for a delayed return is hard. It’s not like overstaying a parking period in Hamilton, when you are close enough to do something about it.
The Government should introduce a system that is employed at just about every other airport worldwide. Get a card when you arrive to park and pay for the time spent when you return before you can leave the car park. Simple and fair. In the meantime, the police could leave a note on a car that has used up its parking time, advising the driver to purchase a top-up parking slip and present it at the police station before they leave the airport. Anybody failing to do so could then be fined $100.
Coming back through our friendly Immigration and Customs is bad enough, so a more user friendly parking control system would help to improve residents’ late returns.
