Bermuda cleanest island in Caribbean
Bermuda is easily the cleanest island in the Caribbean, according to a leading engineer in the United States.
Nickolas Themelis, director of the Earth Engineering Center, had positive words for the Island on the Leonard Lopate Show on Friday.
In a discussion about plastic waste gathering in piles at sea, known as garbage patches, Mr Themelis said Bermuda has a better record than elsewhere in the region thanks to its waste energy plant.
We have visited several islands in the Caribbean, in the Atlantic, and the cleanest we found by far is Bermuda, he told the public radio talk show host.
There's nothing to be found flying around. While if you go to Jamaica or US Virgin Islands, whatever, they have nice resorts, right next to the resort you see fields full of plastic and this and that.
I thought there isnt in Bermuda because they have a very good integrated waste management system which includes a waste energy plant.
The show was part of a series called How to Save the World, in which experts discuss how garbage can be used as a renewable, green energy source.
