Dillas bidding for three straight titles

Jarryd Dillas has put himself in position to claim his third successive Bermuda Match Play Championship title after overwhelming Sergio Edness seven and five at Mid Ocean Club yesterday.

Victory today would make Dillas only the third player in the event’s 83-year history to win three straight championships.

He now faces Fraser Hunt in today’s 36-hole final after Hunt won a nailbiter against Blake Marshall.

That match went to the last hole where Hunt sealed a one-up victory.

Going into the 18th the match was all square. But while Hunt’s drive split the fairway Marshall had to take an unplayable drop out of the trees. Although Hunt’s approach went over the green he hung on to take victory.

In the men’s senior flight Terry Mullan defeated Michael Bertazon four and three while Jeffrey Lindo got past Rick Bartett three and two.

Mullan and Lindo will decide the title over 18 holes today.

Today’s ladies championship flight final will see former winner Katrin Burnie meet Kathy Lloyd-Hines over 36 holes. Both won their semi-finals on Thursday.

This year’s tournament suffered one of its lowest ever entries with not enough players to even form a first flight.
