Taxi commission only weeks away
A taxi commission responsible for all facets of the taxi industry is expected to be in place in the ensuing weeks, according to Transport Minister Derrick Burgess.
Marion Robinson has stepped down as chairwoman, to be replaced by former Senator Cromwell Shakir.
The announcement follows on recommendations put together by a Taxi Authority Review Committee last year.
Cautioning that the establishment of the new authority is a process, not an event, Mr Burgess told the House of Assembly that the commission is tackling issues surrounding two challenging matters: GPS, and the distribution of work in the Ground Transportation Area at the new pier in the Royal Naval Dockyard.
Mr Burgess said amendments were on the way to the Motor Car Act, 1951, with associated legislation now in the final stages of being drafted.
