Butterfield climbs 7.4%

Butterfield Bank shares climbed more than seven percent last week, as the bank prepares to announce first-quarter results this week.

Butterfield gained nine cents, or 7.4 percent, to close on $1.30, as 149,200 shares were exchanged in Bermuda Stock Exchange (BSX) trading. The bank’s share price has gained more than 30 percent since April 3, when it dipped to 99 cents. Butterfield’s market capitalisation now stands at $720.9 million.

Three other companies moved in the opposite direction.

KeyTech Ltd suffered the biggest fall, plunging 12.1 percent to $5.45, although on low volume with only 300 shares trading.

Insurer BF&M Ltd slid 3.2 percent, closing the week on $15.01, as 2,200 shares were traded. Ascendant Group Ltd slipped ten cents, or 0.75 percent, to $13.20, as 1,200 shares changed hands.

The Royal Gazette/BSX Index gained 29.11 points, or 2.63 percent, during the five days, to close on 1,105.17.

Share volume topped 153,000, while total turnover was more than $276,000.
