Pembroke Anglicans to host storyteller Bob Hartman

Great fun is coming for children and the young at heart at the Anglican Parish of Pembroke next month when the parish holds its very first Great Story Telling Week, created by Children’s and Youth Minister, Wayne Hackman, and featuring British storyteller and author, Bob Hartman.

“Remember when you were a child and occasionally you had the opportunity to listen to someone tell a story so engaging that you still remember that experience today,” said Minister Hackman. “Well that’s what the Great Story Week is all about telling great stories and making them alive to the listener.”

“We have realised the importance of telling stories and have invited children’s author and storyteller Bob Hartman, who is best known for writing ‘The Lion Storyteller Bible’, ‘The Wolf That Cried Boy’ and ‘Three Billy Goats Stuff’. He will be joining us for a week-long adventure where he will be telling stories at our free after school programme, helping children engage with storytelling in local Pembroke schools and leading all-age services across the parish.”

The event will run from June 3 to June 10, beginning with an all-age service on Sunday, June 3 at 9.15am at St. John's, lead by Mr Hartman.

The highlight of the week will be daily story telling under a big tent at the St. John's property from June 4 to June 8, from 4:15pm to 5:45pm. These free sessions for children of all ages will feature stories by Mr. Hartman and a variety of local story tellers and authors, including Bermudian storyteller and writer Florenz Maxwell, “Tiny the Tree Frog” author Elizabeth Mulderig, and Royal Gazette writer Sara Westhead.

Hartman will also be visiting several schools across the Island to share with children the joy of story telling, as well as leading a special story telling workshop on Saturday, June 9. The workshop begins at 10.30am, is expected to last about two hours and costs $15 per person. The workshop will cover writing and telling stories, as well as information on how to get professionally published. Teachers can also credits towards their annual professional certification requirements.

The week will culminate with a second all-age service at St Monica's on Sunday, June 10 at 11am.
