Kirklands end World Championship campaign on high note
Olympic-bound sailors Jesse and Zander Kirkland ended their remarkable 49er World Championships campaign on a solid note in Croatia today.
Having qualified for the Olympics earlier this week, the local duo achieved another milestone today in reaching the medal race for the first time at this level.
That was achieved after finishing 14th and 23rd in the final two races in the Gold fleet final which was enough to see the Kirklands through to the medal race.
The sailing siblings placed ninth among the nine - boat fleet in the medal race to finish ninth overall at this year's 49er World Championships.
As well as becoming the first Bermudian Skiff sailors to qualify for the Olympics, the Kirklands claimed two bullets earlier in the regatta, their first at the 49er World Championships.
