Attorney General Kim Wilson will represent Bermuda at a decolonisation conference later this month.

The United Nations has invited Senator Wilson to its Pacific Regional Seminar on the implementation of the Third International Decade for the Eradication of Colonialism in Quito, Ecuador, from Wednesday, May 30, to Friday, June 1.

Her views will be sought on how the UN can go about its decolonisation process.

Sen Wilson stated in a press release: “As the Special Committee attaches great importance to hearing the views of the representatives from each Territory, it is critical for Bermuda to be at the table of such an international event.

“The UN regards national sovereignty as one of the basic and fundamental human rights and it is intended that discussions at this month’s conference will assist the Special Committee in making a realistic analysis and evaluation of each Non-Self-Governing Territory.

“It will also canvass the ways in which the UN and the international community at large may enhance programmes of assistance to the Territories.”

The trip is being funded by the UN, according to the Government press release.
