Students look forward to reading day at Elliot Primary

On June 1 we hope to turn children onto reading at Elliot primary. For the second year running a reading challenge has been issued by the literacy coach, Pauletta Francis, to have 250 men at the Elliot school campus to read to and the student population of the school.
If last year is any testament, the students are in for a delight. Learning to love to read is a mandate of Elliot Primary. Every class is dedicated to reading and spreading the love of reading with each other and their personal families.
Reading guests scheduled to appear include Minister Zane DeSilva, Minister Glenn Blakene and backbencher Dale Butler, as well as men from the Alpha Phi Alpha.
In addition, students will be treated to different activities that incorporate reading. When I asked our head girl, Raykeysha Robinson, the best part of last year’s reading challenge, she replied she enjoyed when the ACE workers instructed them on how to make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. It was not as simple as it sounds stated Raykeysha.
Rickai Richardson, aged 10, enjoyed the obstacle race that day. It became very physical and energising for the students to participate in. He also enjoyed seeing the teachers as children on the reading bulletin. The gist was to guess which baby grew up to be which member of the Elliot staff, that had a lot of individuals guessing who was who.
Elliot Primary would like every child to have their own personal reader and would like to invite males who can spare an hour on Friday June 1 to volunteer with the students of Elliot Primary to read with students. Books will be provided by the classroom teacher if they do not have a book.
Males can register any time up until June 1 by 10.45am.
At this time, the staff and students of Elliot Primary would like to thank all participants for volunteering their time to ensure that our Reading Day will continue to be a raving success.
