Frenchman critical after falling into sea
A French man was fighting for his life in hospital last night after falling off a wall and into the sea.
The accident happened at Harrington Sound Road, Devils Hole Hill, in Smiths around 5pm on Saturday, according to police.
A spokesman said: It appears that a 56-year-old Pembroke man was sitting on a wall in the area when he fell overboard and had to be rescued by members of the public.
Police officers and members of the public initially attended to the victim before EMTs arrived on scene to assist.
The 56-year-old man was then taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance and at last check was in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit. Inquiries into this incident are ongoing.–He later confirmed that the injured man is a French national. Police have not released his name publicly.
A hospital spokeswoman reported that the victim was in a critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit yesterday evening.
Reacting to the news, Senator Diallo Rabain, who is running for election for the Progressive Labour Party in Constituency 7, where the accident occurred, said: I am very concerned about the health and safety of my potential constituents and I will be checking on him as soon as I can.
