A murder investigation stemming more than two years resulted in formal charges being laid against two men in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

David Jahwell Cox, 32, and Devon Hewey, 23 were not required to enter a plea to a four-count indictment led by the charge of premeditated murder of James Lawes.

Lawes was gunned down outside of Place’s Place on March 19, 2010, two other men were also wounded.

The two men were also charged with the attempted murder of Maurice Martin and Robin Stovell and using a firearm to commit premeditated murder.

Mr Cox is represented by lawyer Larry Mussenden, Shade Subair appears for Mr Hewey. Both men were remanded in custody by Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner.

A number of uniform and plain clothes officers were present in court for the brief hearing. The victim’s widow, Greashena Spence was also in court for the proceedings.

The case was set down for mention on June 21.
