  • Chief mourners, family and colleagues of Keith Saltus packed the church and adjoining hall with the overflow in the church yard.

  • Community stalwart: Keith Saltus

If there was ever a genial, genuine, team player and jack of many trades who served his church and community well, it was Keith Gerald Saltus.

Born 60 years ago in the heart of Hamilton, he grew up on Dudley Hill, Paget, and probably spent the best years of his life in Somerset, following his marriage of May 7, 1978 to the former Victoria Marie Vickers. Three children of the marriage are Gerald, Daniel and Vinisha.

Although he had been in failing health for more than a year, his death on May 21 came as a blow to his colleagues at both the Sandys 360 Foundation and at Allen Temple AME Church, where he was an active member, serving on the Usher Board, Trustee Board; sang in the Men Choir. As a member of the Kitchen Committee, he only recently supervised a major renovation and modernisation of the church hall kitchen.

Allen Temple’s pastor, Rev Howard Dill officiated at his funeral service. Other clergy in attendance were Presiding Elder Betty Furbert-Woolridge; Rev Anthony Pettit, priest of St Paul’s Anglican Church, Paget; and the Rev Lorne Bean, pastor of Bethel AME Church.
