Slave and champion of the abolitionist movement, Mary Prince, will be recognised as Bermudas national hero this year.
A ceremony will be held in her honour next Saturday in advance of National Heroes Day on June 18.
The ceremony will take place at 6pm at Barrs Bay Park. The public event includes music, dance, and spoken word performances.
Although the Naming and Recognition Committee did not request nominations, the group reportedly considered letters received from students around Bermuda that put Ms Prince forward.
The History of Mary Prince was published in 1831, just three years before the abolition of slavery under British law.
It includes accounts of flogging in Bermuda and is the first black womans autobiography published in Britain.
E F (Mazumbo) Gordon, Pauulu Kamarakafego (Roosevelt Browne) and Sir Henry (Jack) Tucker were inducted as national heroes last year.
