Registration for Miss Teen Bermuda hopefuls tonight
If youre the kind of girl whos passionate about local issues, looking to be a role model and confident enough to strut your stuff on a stage — then the Miss Teen Bermuda pageant could be for you.
The pageant, hosted by Terry Lee Smith of Tee'l Productions, will be bigger than ever this year — in honour of its tenth anniversary.
Six girls signed up at the start of the year; Mr Smith is also inviting interested applicants to come to learn more about the programme tonight.
He will host a registration and orientation session on the second floor of the Bermuda Industrial Union from 5.30pm until 7pm.
Mr Smith said young girls ages 13 to 17 are invited to take part in the August 19 contest at the Fairmont Southampton. Persons who enter must be born in Bermuda or have been a resident for more than six months.
We would like young ladies to be comfortable in their skin, it doesnt really matter what size she is, he said.
We are looking for girls that are outgoing and looking forward to representing their Country, who are well-spoken, well-mannered and carry themselves well.
And we want someone that is very community-oriented, who will champion the causes of Miss Teen Bermuda and have a platform and present it should she make the top prize.
He said interested contestants started applying as early as January and February.
The boost in popularity might be a result of changing perceptions of the pageant and what it represents, Mr Smith said.
This was the first time we could say we had girls who were asking about this years pageant very early. Its our tenth year, so its gotten to the point where they know its a serious pageant.
Its not just about beauty in the face, but more about beauty in the spirit and their personality and intellect.
Mr Smith said the prizes in this years contest would be bigger than last year and past winners will play a significant role.
People unable to make the orientation can pick up applications from Clara Bows Boutique on Court Street, Transformations hair salon on Reid Street and Mistys in Somerset. Alternatively, e-mail tlp@logic.bm, or call 337-5552.
