In May, we listed our favourite apps for Moms in honour of Mother’s Day, so it’s only fair do the same for dads since this Sunday is Father’s Day. If you’re still looking for a good little gift for him, here are some apps that will help dad do everything from manage and measure potential home repair projects to watch his favourite sports team while on the go.

US Open

Free

The US Open Golf Championship has begun and if your father likes to keep on top of the action, this official app will be his new favourite thing. It provides a real-time leader board, full course details, on-demand highlights and streams live ESPN Radio coverage. For IOS and Android

UEFA Euro 2012

Free

The world is tuned in to the Euros right now and the official app is available on a number of different platforms so that you can stay tuned to the tournament wherever you go. Live scores, team line-ups, and group standings, will keep your dad up to date. If your dad is looking for somewhere to watch a match, the app can even check your location and suggest nearby pubs. And for fans who are planning to go to the tournament, there’s also a basic travel guide for Poland and the Ukraine. For IOS, Android, BlackBerry, Windows Phone 7

Starmap

$11.99

One doesn’t necessarily need a map of the night skies, but knowledge is a beautiful thing, no matter what age you are. And, what dad wouldn’t like to sit out under the stars and show off what he knows on a clear summer’s evening? With this app, he can point his iPhone or iPad in any direction and Starmap will pinpoint the exact portion of the sky like a virtual telescope. For IOS

iHandy Carpenter

$1.99

For the low price of one dollar and 99 cents, your dad can have a mini toolkit right in his pocket with iHandy Carpenter. Included in the app tool kit are a plum bob, a surface level and a straight level as well as a ruler for measuring lengths and a protractor for measuring angles. For IOS and Android

Slango — Urban Dictionary

$0.99

Is your dad embarrassingly behind the times? Never fear, this app is here to help. Slango, an urban dictionary with more than five million slang words and phrases, will get your dad hip with the lingo and up to speed with today’s dizzying pop culture. Of course, you may then find yourself more embarrassed when your dad asks how your, like, cheezburger planking is going. For IOS
