Bermuda recorded a second road traffic fatality yesterday when a 37-year-old visitor from the UK succumbed to injuries sustained in a serious collision on Harbour Road in Paget.

The accident occurred near the junction of Manse and Chapel Roads around 3.35pm. The victim, who was riding a rental cycle with a pillion passenger, collided with a car travelling along Harbour Road.

He was taken to King Edward VII Memorial via ambulance, the pillion passenger, a 36-year-old UK woman was also treated for minor injuries. According to the spokesman, no other injuries were reported.

Traffic was diverted from Harbour Road to Middle Road while collision investigators conducted inquiries at the scene causing delays during rush hour traffic for west bound motorists.

The traffic flow was back to normal by 6pm. The spokesman added: “No further information will be released until the next of kin has been notified. The investigation into this fatal collision is ongoing.”

This marks the second road fatality for 2012. The first fatality of the year was recorded on February 5, when 48-year-old American Michael Lancelotta died following a road traffic accident on Wellington Street in St George’s near Tiger Bay.

He too was riding a rental cycle that collided with a water truck and subsequently died as a result of his injuries.
