Spirit surges towards Bermuda
Spirit of Bermuda has exited the Gulf Stream and is reaching towards Bermuda in northeasterly winds ranging between 26-30 knots on her port beam.
The triple mast sloop is travelling at 11 knots in 6-10 ft seas.
Earlier, Spirit made the most of a meander in the Gulf Stream that gave her an extra three knots of speed.
Spirit is presently attempting to "hitch a ride" on an eddy that could give her more boat speed as she surges towards Bermuda.
The purpose-built sail-training vessel is among the 166 boats in this year's Newport Bermuda Race.
Spirit is competing alone in the new 'Spirit of Tradition' Division.
