Honoured: BTFA president Donna Watson
Bermuda Track and Field Association (BTFA) president Donna Watson is set to receive a Queens Certificate and Badge of Honour.
Watson has helped put Bermuda track and field back on the map in recent years and played a key role in organising the successful Carifta Games, held at the National Sports Centre in April.
A former track star, Watson, who was appointed BTFA president in 2009, said she was proud to have been recognised for her contribution to sport on the Island.
Its great being honoured for doing something that you love and track and field has been my life first as an athlete, then a coach and now on the administrative side, she said.
My main contributions have been bringing track and field back to the forefront and growing the number of athletes in the sport.
Of course, to be the chairperson of such a successful Carifta Games with a strong team working with me has been a highlight.
Hopefully this is an event that will stay in peoples minds in Bermuda, the Caribbean and those who watched it around the world for a long time.
Watson added: Im not sure how you get chosen for these honours. I just received a call and was told that I had received the Queens Certificate and Badge of Honour from Government House.
