Fighting the flab
Ever wave your arm and feel a flabby section underneath flap about? Maybe you dont even wave enthusiastically anymore because of it. That happens because you dont use the muscle there much. When you dont use muscle it loses its firmness, its tone, and the result is flabbiness.
This week our Summer Shape-Up series targets that muscle — the triceps.
Award winning former body builder Lisa Weekes, has been a certified personal trainer for four years. Her slogan is keeping it tight and coming from a body building background she almost always uses weights to help tone muscle.
Lets be real, we all want that tight and toned figure, she said.
Body & Soul spoke with Ms Weekes at MBS Fitness where she is an instructor.
Exercise: Overhead triceps extensions
Muscles toned: triceps — the muscle under the upper arm.
Method: This exercise can be done sitting or standing.
Hold a ten or 8lb weight behind your head with both hands, elbows bent and close to the ears.
Continuing to hold the weight, slowly straighten your arms. Slowly return your arms to the starting position and repeat.
Do three or four sets of 15, twice a week.
