Conditional discharge given to cashier who undercharged customer
A saleswoman who gave a customer an unauthorised discount was given a conditional discharge for the offence.
Lakeisha Simmons, 37, was fired from her job at the Dollar Depot in Hamilton Parish as a result, Magistrates Court heard.
Crown counsel Nicole Smith said a manager saw a customer enter the store and ask to purchase 24 party bags around 11.10am on April 20.
The party bags cost $3 each, Simmons charged $1.50 per item.
Simmons confessed to the manager that she had intentionally undercharged the customer.
Her lawyer, Saul Dismont, described Simmons as a single mother and the sole breadwinner for her family.
He also noted that Simmons had worked at the store for 17 years without incident.
I think having lost her job and appearing here today, she is certainly embarrassed by it and has been punished already, Mr Dismont said.
Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo released Simmons with a 12-month conditional discharge.
I think no doubt the experience has been horrible enough for you, he said.
