Patient denies punching man in van
A mental health patient accused of an unprovoked attack on a man sitting in a van elected trial by jury when he appeared in court yesterday.
Junius Caines, 43, is accused by prosecutors of assaulting Andrei Simons in Pembroke on March 23.
He did not have to enter a plea since he elected for the case to be heard at Supreme Court.
Prosecutor Larissa Burgess told Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner: The defendant approached the complainant while he was sitting in his van and punched him several times in the face. This was an unprovoked attack as far as the Crown is concerned.
A probation officer explained to the court that Mr Caines has been receiving treatment at the Mid Atlantic Wellness Institute.
Mr Warner adjourned the matter until July 11.
