Top Bermudian female tennis player Tyler Smith won the girls’ doubles title at the TIHTA ITF Junior Tournament in Aruba on Saturday.

Smith and partner Madrie Le Roux of South Africa beat sisters Alexandra and Madison Bourguignon of the United States 6-4, 4-6, 10-7 in the final. Smith and Le Roux were ranked number one in the tournament while their opponents were the number two seeds.

The title was the second of the tournament for Le Roux, 17, who also won the girls’ singles title. The top seed beat fourth seed Anita Safronenka of Belarus 6-3, 6-3.

Smith, 15, was knocked out in the quarter-finals of the singles by Madison Bourguignon, the number two seed, who then lost to Safronenka in the semi-finals 6-4, 7-6. Smith was seeded eighth in the singles.
