Patton 94th at Italian regatta
Campbell Patton placed 94th at the recently completed Optimist Dinghy European Championships in Lignano, Italy.
Patton, who was competing in his first International Optimist Dinghy Association event, finished 35th in the final race leaving him 94th overall out of the 158 boys taking part.
The 11-year-old Warwick Academy student was one of the youngest sailors at the event.
The extremely light and shifty wind conditions and the added challenge of avoiding boat-slowing seaweed made it a positive learning experience for the young RBYC sailor, said a Bermuda Optimist Dinghy Association official.
Top boys in the regatta were Stijn Paardekooper from the Netherlands, Maor Abu from Israel and David Lucan from Austria.
After the regatta Patton joined forces with the British Opti team for coaching and on-the-water support.
