Power outage hits 16,000 homes
An investigation continues today into the cause of Island-wide power outages that left nearly 16,000 homes without electricity on Saturday.
A Belco spokeswoman said the outages occurred at 11.59am leaving an estimated 15,800 customers affected across the Island after three engines tripped.
The cause is under investigation as efforts got underway to restore electricity as quickly as possible.
All three engines were returned to service by 2.15pm on Saturday when restoration of power to all homes was almost complete, with the exception of approximately 100 customers in the White Hill area.
The spokeswoman said: The majority were restored at 1.43pm, and the remaining 100 customers in the Whites Hill area of Somerset were restored by 3.50pm, so all were back before Saturday evening.
