One less form for guest workers arriving at airport
Airport paperwork will be cut next month for guest workers, according to National Security Minister Wayne Perinchief.
Starting August 1, permanent residency holders and residents with work permits will no longer fill out the pink Immigration Arrival Card upon arrival at LF Wade International Airport.
Mr Perinchief announced the switch in the House of Assembly on Friday, adding: “Machine-readable passports capture all data required for border control purposes.”
Tourists and non-resident business travellers will still be required to fill out the forms, for the collection of visitor data.
“However, a solution leading to a paperless immigration experience at LFW is being actively developed,” Mr Perinchief said.
The airport is also to acquire two new scanners to handle visitor data.
A pilot scheme for “Fast Pass Cards” was introduced on May 1 for a select group of business travellers on periodic work permits.
Asked by United Bermuda Party MP for Southampton West Central Charles Swan how many of the cards had been issued, Mr Perinchief said he would provide the information in due course.
