Tall grass in the Island’s parks is nothing unusual, according to the Department of Parks, which has five of its 13 rider lawnmowers under repair.

A spokesman said the Department kept an established schedule for cutting the grass, and is working to address “areas needing additional attention”.

“It is not uncommon for the grass to be high this time of year,” the spokesman added.

“It only requires a rain shower and some sunshine, and the grass can be growing at a rate of one inch per day.”

Since the Department’s Toro brand mowers are “heavily used this time of year”, he said, a number of breakdowns were to be expected.
