Health Minister Zane DeSilva
Government today tabled a backlog of financial statements and audit opinions relating to its health insurance funds in the House of Assembly.
Health Minister Zane DeSilva presented financial statements for the Health Insurance Fund and the Mutual Reinsurance Fund for the fiscal years ended March 31, 2005 through March 31, 2010.
Mr DeSilva also tabled the financial statements for Government's FutureCare Fund for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2010.
"As background let me say that the tabling of these financial statements represents the final backlog to be cleared for the Health Insurance Department, which previously was the health Insurance Section under the Department of Social Insurance," Mr DeSilva said.
"It is no secret to Honourable Members that the Health Insurance Section encountered significant backlogs in multiple areas of its business over a period spanning more than a decade from the late 1990s to the late 2000s."
Government expects to publish annual reports covering the audited periods "shortly", the Health Minister added.
