A Bermuda-registered yacht rescued three people on board a fishing boat, adrift for several days off Costa Rica.

According to Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre the mega yacht Golden Odyssey helped the Maria Christina to safety yesterday.

The 30-foot fishing boat had been adrift for eight days and was said to be carrying three Costa Rican nationals from the Cocos Islands, a nature reserve 550km off the coast of Costa Rica.

A Government spokesman said the Golden Odyssey towed the Maria Christina part of the way back to the Cocos Islands. A local boat, Gaviota, towed the fishing vessel for the remainder of the journey.
