St David’s, 183-5, beat Willow Cuts 89 all out, by 94 runs

Previous T/20 winners St David’s comfortably advanced to this year’s final after Sammy Robinson and Justin Pitcher both smashed half-centuries at Somerset Cricket Club last night.

The second straight win by St David’s over Willow Cuts looked very easy in the end after Robinson and Pitcher shared in a second wicket stand of 118 in just 10 overs and then captain Fiqre Crockwell and Rudell Pitcher shared seven wickets as Willow Cuts were undone by some tidy St David’s bowling.

In was in the bowling that Willow Cuts lost their grip on the match early on as Robinson and Pitcher led a spirited fightback after opener Arthur Pitcher Jr was dismissed in the fourth over with just 15 on the board. But that would be the last success for Cuts for a while as opener Robinson, after a slow start, smashed 81 not out from 60 balls and Pitcher 61 from 35 balls with six fours and four sixes.

Robinson allowed 22 dot balls and had 18 singles before accelerating later in the innings with 11 fours and two sixes to bat through the innings. Malachi Jones took two for 22 and George O’Brien two for 35 off their four overs to lead the Cuts bowling.

Chris Douglas and Ricardo Brangman gave an early indication that Cuts were up to the challenge when they scored 27 in the first two overs, but by that time wickets had already started to fall. Douglas departed in the second over for five, Brangman went in the next over for a top score of 21 from two fours and two sixes and Malachi Jones departed for four in the fourth over to make it 34-3. Bergon Spencer fell for five to make it 43-4 in the sixth over and Cuts were already starting to look a beaten side as St David’s kept on the pressure as Justin Pitcher came into the attack as second change. .

Three more wickets fell on 66, 67 and 67 and after that it was only a matter of time as Dexter Basden (14) and O’Brien (16) offered some resistance in the middle order before Jermaine Trott delayed the inevitable with 13 in the tail-end before he was last out to give St David’s victory.

Crockwell led the St David’s bowling with four for 14 off three overs while Rudell Pitcher claimed three for 27 off four overs and Justin Pitcher two for 10 off from 3.1 overs. St David’s now await the winners of the second semi-final next Thursday between Southampton and Bailey’s Bay.
