Dear Sir,

I read with some dismay your article in The Royal Gazette, 16 July page 6, quoting MP Marc Bean on the subject of homosexual equality. How poorly served are his constituents having an elected official with a mindset some 30 years out of date. Why does he feel the need to underline his heterosexuality with a comment on his (one presumes) youthful virility? How many defiled maidens exist as a consequence? Many gay men (and many non-gays) would be horrified by his boasts of promiscuity. Is he proud of these conquests? Denying gay couples access to hotels — well, the most basic research will show how poorly this MP has educated himself when it comes to the subject of legislation and stated case around the world.

And, as for his Freudian slip on the subject of “sucking up”, methinks the honourable gentlemen doth protest too much. Bermuda, ditch this kind of thinking or you will become a third world backwater which forward thinking, educated travellers will simply bypass on their way to somewhere more enlightened. Mr Bean, you have done your countrymen a disservice.
