Man arrested after accident lands tourist in ICU
A man has been arrested in connection with yesterday's road accident that left an American tourist fighting for his life.
According to police, the 27-year-old was arrested on suspicion of driving while impaired.
The road victim, a 59-year-old from Alabama, is being treated for "serious head injuries" in the Intensive Care Unit at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.
He was involved in a collision with a motorcycle while walking on Pitts Bay Road near Roxdene Lane, around 11pm.
Said a Police spokesman in a statement issued this afternoon: "A 27-year-old man was arrested for suspicion of driving whilst impaired in connection with the collision."
The accident victim was described as being in a "critical condition", by police.
Continued the spokesman: "Police are asking for any witnesses to this collision, especially anyone who may have seen the victim walking along Pitts Bay Road between 10.45pm and 11.10pm."
Police described the accident victim as white and balding. He was wearing light-coloured clothing at the time of the accident and is said to be approximately 5ft 8in to 5ft 10in and of solid/stocky build.
