A confrontation between rival gang members was defused by police during the Non-Mariners Race.

No injuries resulted from the altercation on the Elizabeth cruise boat, at 5pm on Sunday, but police said enquiries were continuing.

The long holiday also saw ten assaults, eight burglaries, ten road crashes involving injuries and five non-injury collisions, two robberies, two marine incidents, two disturbances, and 12 cases of driving while impaired. There were 22 arrests.

Calling the Cup Match holiday “largely uneventful”, police thanked partner organisations and the public for their help.
