Promising cyclist Dominique Mayho biked over 440 kilometres in his first week of racing in France, gaining valuable experience and knowledge about the sport from professional Philippe Mauduit.

Mauduit, a directeur sportif, is housing the Bermudian as he trains and races with club UCC Vivonne whilst in Europe.

The winner of a string of senior events in Bermudas in the last year compete against top riders in the region.

In his first race, he earned 50 euros for leading laps although he fell off the pace towards the latter parts of the 97 kilometre race.

“The course was mostly flat with one steep climb about one hundred meters long,” said Mayho.

“Since it was my first race for the team UCC Vivonne I decided to cover all the early moves and after about an hour of racing one stuck.

“Every lap they had primes (prize for the first one cross the line), I won five of them but it affected me late in the race.

“Three laps to go the pack started attacking each other and with how things went early on I couldn’t go anymore, and although know the results, I did manage to win fifty euros from the primes.

“This is such a great opportunity for me.”

In total, the national champion cycled 445 kilometres from July 29 to August.

He will continue to train with his team in preparations for the next event in the coming days.
