Sign goes up for return of stolen items

Call it a sign of the times, but a Pembroke family hard hit by crime posted a sign after the Cup Match holiday for stolen goods to be returned. The sign is posted outside the entrance to West Pembroke Primary School on the North Shore.

When contacted by The Royal Gazette, the resident, who asked not to be named, said both she and her husband woke up on the Saturday morning after Cup Match to find their belongings missing.

“We have lived in this area for more than 30 years, we had something taken out of the yard years ago, but this is the first time something like this has happened in a very long time,” she said.

“They took our generator, a camouflage coloured Steele brand generator valued at $500 and our Weedeater, which is worth about $200. It must have been taken sometime overnight because we woke up to find our shed door wide open and the two items missing.”

The family operates a snowball stand at the school gate during the summer. Now they have to run an extension cord from the stand to their residence to operate the small concession stand that is geared primarily for young children in the area.

“I just read this week that police are saying crime is down in Bermuda,” said the disgruntled resident. “I don’t feel crime is down because this happened to me and my family and when I read crime is down in the newspaper; with people stealing gold for money, I know people are desperate but stealing is just not right,” she said.

“All I want is our stolen items back, we started this snow cone stand for the first time ever for the neighbourhood children and the little ones attending summer day camp. Now I have to run an extension cord to my house which is a real pain in the butt,” she said.
