Elderly driver injured as car crashes into Hamilton store

A car driven by an elderly woman veered across a crowded lunchtime shopping street and crashed through the window of a store yesterday.
The woman remained sitting in her white Chevrolet Spark for some time after it ploughed into Gibbons Company on Reid Street, apparently dazed.
She appeared to have suffered minor facial injuries and dabbed at her face with a towel as police officers, firefighters and ambulance technicians gathered around.
The woman was subsequently taken to hospital for treatment.
No one else was hurt in the crash, but a large crowd of spectators gathered to stare and take pictures of the scene.
A police officer told reporters they would have to contact the police press office for further details but said: "It's a single vehicle road traffic collision. She's fine."
A Gibbons spokeswoman said: “Thankfully, no injuries or damage were reported as a result of the incident. Gibbons Company’s primary concern is for the safety of its loyal clients and, as a result, is thankful that the individual involved was not seriously injured.”
The spokeswoman also stated that the crash did not disrupt business at the store.
