Dill’s Warriors step up a league
Bermudian Terence Dill is enjoying a new lease on life after his Buffalo Warriors basketball team were accepted to the USA’s Premier Basketball League (PBL) for the 2013 season.
The Warriors have been slotted into the league and will rub shoulders with clubs nationwide.
Midway through last season, the Warriors pulled out of the Atlantic Coast Professional Basketball League (ACPBL), citing team issues as their chief reason for the withdrawal.
For Dill, who had a topsy-turvy first season as manager of the club, the chips are finally starting to fall into place as he looks forward to bigger and better things.
According to the Bermuda player, the club are close to signing “some big names”, although he couldn’t disclose full details with talks ongoing.
“We have officially joined the PBL which doesn’t kick off until March 1,” said Dill. “This is a greater stepping stone for us to climb the ladder of success, and we have a few big name characters lined up for the season.”
It’s also understood that negotiations could be taking place to link the league with a TV network.
And if such a deal comes to fruition, Dill believes it will be the biggest news regarding professional basketball in Buffalo since the departure of the Buffalo Braves who left the area in 1978.
“We are also in the process of doing a reality show on a major network, therefore due to some of these things that I have mentioned we have had to postpone our trip to Bermuda for recruiting until later this year but we are still coming,” added Dill.
The power forward and fellow Buffalo-based player Franklin Jackson formed the team and joined the ACPBL last season, with both acting as general managers.
Although the decision to fold was necessary, according to Dill, he still had his sights on bringing the team back to compete in a league next term.
Co-owner Eddie Bednarz said he was also pleased with the latest developments surrounding the club.
“Pounding the pavement to get things done is how you do it in Buffalo,” said Bednarz. “It’s a small city with the potential to be a great basketball city once again.”
