Duffy on way home for all-female triathlon
Flora Duffy had a flight cancelled yesterday morning, but indications are Bermudas top female triathlete will make it home today in time for tomorrows SheRox Triathlon on South Shore.
Race director Neil de ste Croix revealed earlier in the week that Duffy was planning to return to the Island from her base in Colorado, but the hurricane that hit New York caused a major disruption to flights in the US and left many passengers scrambling to get alternative bookings.
Several triathletes are flying in for tomorrows event and de ste Croix said entry numbers should break the 200 mark with Duffy, the only pro in the event, heading out with the elite competitors. About half of the field will be local competitors.
Her flight was cancelled this morning but she is coming and will be racing in the individual event, said de ste Croix. It will be her first race on home soil for some time and were looking forward to having her here.
She has had to reroute but we should see her on the Island sometime tomorrow (today) and is doing a presentation at the Princess for the competitors and shell be racing on Sunday. Its really worth coming out to see her race.
Racing starts at 7am with the swim in the Whaler Inn bay before the competitors head onto South Shore for the cycle and run. The road, from the Paget lights to Barnes Corner, will be closed to traffic until from 7am to 10.30am.
Leading competitors in the Elite class will be defending champion Kristyn Robinson, Karen Smith, Belinda Castree and Emma OConnell who competed in a gruelling half-ironman last weekend in Miami.
