Lockdown at CedarBridge was a drill
A code blue security alert and lockdown was held at CedarBridge Academy on Friday — a drill, according to school principal Kalmar Richards.
The simulated crisis was staged without the knowledge of staff and students, as part of an established routine of drills that have been conducted at the school in recent years.
Explained Ms Richards: On Friday, during the lunch break, we used students from the drama department to simulate two fights and a code blue call was given over the PA system.
Students and staff had to move to designated areas depending on where they were in the building. There are designated areas for students and staff to report to depending on where they are in the building. This is part of the training for staff and students.
The lockdown was also timed.
Our goal is to always improve on the time, Ms Richards added.
Feedback was gathered from staff, security, students and the safety and health coordinator, for improvements to be implemented in the schools next drill. Police were not involved in the simulation, Ms Richards said.
