Q: What is a SSD?

A: A ‘solid state drive’ is an internal hard drive that does not have moving parts that are found in a traditional HDD (hard disk drive).

This makes them far more durable than HDDs and their compact size made the concept of netbooks a reality.

SSDs require less power and therefore tend to have longer battery lives than that of a normal laptop which is a plus. The pricing differential between SSDs (more expensive) and HDDs has narrowed somewhat, but the storage capabilities of these remain limited.
