Police investigate alleged corporal punishment act on schoolgirl
Police are investigating an alleged assault on a teenaged schoolgirl by a school employee.
A spokesman said yesterday: “The Vulnerable Person Unit is currently investigating the alleged assault of a 13-year-old female student by a school employee.
“The female employee was taken into police custody in connection with the matter and has since been released on police bail pending further inquiries.”
Meanwhile, a spokeswoman for Bermuda Institute has pledged the school’s full cooperation with police.
A statement was released late yesterday by the Communication Director of the Bermuda Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.
Sheila Holder said: “The Bermuda Conference of Seventh-day Adventists and the Bermuda Institute are cooperating fully with the investigation into an act of corporal punishment that took place in early October 2012.
“The administration and staff of the school are 100 percent committed to the safety of every student in their care.
Ms Holder added: “The Bermuda Conference has been a part of the Bermuda community for more than 100 years, with the Bermuda Institute of Seventh-day Adventists offering Christian education for the Bermuda public for more than 70 years.”
