Motorcyclist rammed fence in front of Police
A Warwick man who crashed his bike into a fence during a traffic stop yesterday admitted driving drunk.
Andrew Kirkpatrick, 30, pleaded guilty to charges of driving while impaired, speeding and driving without a licence.
Magistrates’ Court heard that at around 2am on Sunday, officers were conducting laser speed checks on Crow Lane when they saw Kirkpatrick riding a vehicle west at a high rate of speed.
Kirkpatrick was stopped on Front Street, opposite the Supermart, but as he stopped the vehicle the officers watched as he collided with a nearby fence and then struggled to put the bike on its stand.
The officers spoke with Kirkpatrick and noticed that his breath smelled strongly of alcohol. Asked if he had been drinking, he responded: “I have had one bottle.”
He was arrested and taken to Hamilton Police, but refused to give officers a breath sample.
Senior Magistrate banned Kirkpatrick from driving all vehicles for one year and imposed an $800 fine.
