  • A tasty way to give back; Cup cake creator Malisa Swan holds up one of her creations at the New Beginnings office in the City of Hamilton on Wednesday she plans to donate proceeds to the charity through a cup cake bake off competition ( Photo by Glenn Tucker )

Baker Malisa Swan was around five when she got an Easy Bake Oven.

She would use it to make sweet creations and even then loved everything about baking.

She now wants to share that love for baking, and is offering Saturday classes for children ages six through 12 from February 9 to March 30, 11am until 1pm.

Participants will learn how to make and decorate cupcakes from scratch. Each students will get four cupcakes to take home.

Ms Swan said she wanted to give young people, particularly those with an interest in baking, something fun and out-of-the-ordinary to do on the weekend.

“All the young children want Easy Bake Ovens and parents can’t get them because the stores sell out of stock early.

“So instead of getting that they can come to my kitchen, make a mess in my kitchen and learn how to make everything from red velvet cupcakes, to vanilla and chocolate cupcakes all without the parents stressing to clean it up. I teach them everything about the cupcakes, what goes into the recipe step by step.”

Ms Swan said she hoped it would be a great experience for the young people and a good way to make new friends.

It costs $10 to register for the class and then $60 per session. Spaces are limited and can be reserved on 536-5035 or motherstreats@live.com.

Mother’s Treats bakery is located on 23 Princess Street in Pembroke.
