Dear Sir,

Whilst I understand that every country needs immigration laws, I would like to ask how suspected subversives can be allowed the potential of citizenship having been taken to Bermuda in a somewhat underhand way. My wife Rhonda would like to live in Bermuda having been born there in 1957. We have been back twice and are both capable of working, given the chance to. I appreciate the laws altered in 1956 and that both my wife’s parents were British, being born in the UK. However whilst they were resident, they both worked for Triminghams and my wife’s uncle served with the Bermudian Police Force, her grandmother working at Cambridge Beaches.

Had it not been for her father’s sickness and untimely death in 1962, the family would have remained. It was unfortunate that my wife’s mother had four children to support and no means of doing so without her late husband and so had to return to the UK. I have served in the Police Force in the UK for over 30 years having now retired. I would like to ask people’s views given that my wife is a law-abiding person who desperately wants to return home and yet cannot do so when solicitors can try and obtain citizenship for people who have no claim to being there
