Terrifyingly cute
Halloween isn’t just for humans — Bermuda’s pets are proving they too can be party animals.
From a pint-sized pedigree pirate to a puppy Princess Leia and a purr-fect angel, the Island’s pet owners are going animal crackers for outfits. The cute costumes were on show as part of a contest run by Fetchfido, a community of pet enthusiasts and businesses.
Sixteen entries were received, with the photos posted on Fetchfido’s Facebook page and people urged to vote for their favourite. The winner was unveiled yesterday.
“The contest was really successful,” said organiser Krystal Outerbridge, who launched Fetchfido two years ago. “I really appreciate everyone being a part of it.”
The winner with 530 votes was Sheldon the ‘Pure Bread’ cat, who lives in Smith’s with owner Jennifer Chisnall.
The cute kitty beat one-year-old terrier Titan, who racked up 488 votes to take second place.
Other impressive entries included seven-year-old Annie, who looked out of this world as Star Wars heroine Princess Leia, an angelic-looking Korea the cat in wings and a halo, and one-year-old Toffee, a golden-coated Gombey with a tail to tell as a rescue dog from the Animal House Jamaica.
One-year-old labradoodle Sadie was magical as the Wicked Witch of Warwick and Southampton shih tzu Khloe looked blooming lovely as a flower.
Two-year-old Wrigley, a King Charles cavalier/ bichon frise mix, decided eight legs were better than four and sported a spider costume.
Sheldon’s prize is a Halloween goodie bag courtesy of sponsors Noah’s Ark, Ettrick Animal Hospital, Endsmeet Animal Hospital, Animal & Garden House and Pampered Pets. Ettrick also contributed a $150 gift certificate for Fourways Inn for Sheldon’s owners. The other sponsors also contributed gift certificates for entrants.
Ms Outerbridge said she launched Fetchfido in 2012 to connect pet lovers to other pet lovers. The site includes pets in need of homes, lost animals and events.
